Dont fall for 'cheap' repair shops!

Soooo… I got brought this monstrosity late last night! This customer had taken it to a mobile phone repair shop in Hartlepool who quoted them £50 for the HDMI port to be replaced.

They had the Xbox for 3 days and phoned the customer last night to tell them that their Xbox could not be fixed and that it needed a new motherboard… A NEW MOTHERBOARD this is because of how badly they destroyed this 6 WEEK OLD Xbox series X!

This is why you need to check who you’re taking your expensive consoles to.. not everyone will have the knowledge or experience to do the job their asking money for as evidenced quite often in the posts I make.

Few hours on my bench and this Xbox had all of the damage fixed and outputting in 4K resolution once again as seen in the last picture!

Pay it once the first time and get results that last a lifetime!

Here’s the damage breakdown!

  • 9 pulled pads from the HDMI port
  • Attempted trace repair, soldering all data lines to a ground point destroying the ESD chip (luckily not the APU)
  • 4 destroyed and missing filters
  • 2 missing capacitors from the ESD chip area
  • 1 missing capacitor from the 5v to 3.3v buck

All issues were fixed correctly and saved this customer from spending money on replacing the entire console due to recklessness from an abysmal phone repair shop.

On pickup the customer stated that the repair shop had been messaging all night and this morning asking who they had taken it to and if it was fixed. After telling them it was fixed they then tried to blame the customer for not giving them enough time to fix it! Even though they had it 3 days and also had the "top specialist tech in the north east" look at it, I fixed this in a few hours with all of the damage they created (HDMI ports are done in 45 minutes here) so does that mean….? IM THE TOP TECH IN THE NORTH EAST?
